Announcing the third concert of the Tiffany Concert Series hosted by The Allegheny Historical Preservation Society.

The concert will be performed in the magnificent Calvary United Methodist Church - welcoming the public to wonderful music in beautiful surrounds. Bring yourself and your friends to this very worthy event.


The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh Hosts Composer and Violinist Alyssa Wang

The Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh (COP) celebrates the remarkable talents of composer, violinist, and conductor Alyssa Wang February 5, 2023, 3:00pm at Calvary United Methodist Church. For this program, COP is commissioning an original work from Wang, a violin concerto titled Swept Away, and this program will feature its world premiere performance with Wang as soloist. COP will also present Jozef Haydn’s Symphony No. 44, his “Mourning” Symphony, and Sinfonietta No. 1 by Malcolm Arnold. Reception to follow.


“Alyssa Wang is a tremendous, multi-faceted talent,” says Artistic Director and Conductor Edward Leonard. “This concert continues our commitment to commissioning new works from exciting and diverse composers, as well as fulfilling our mission to present rarely performed masterpieces from the past.

ALYSSA WANG

Alyssa Wang is a passionate and versatile conductor, violinist, and composer. She is the Assistant Conductor of Boston Ballet and the Co-Founder, Artistic Director, and Principal Conductor of the Boston Festival Orchestra, founded in 2019. She performs regularly as a violinist with Boston ensembles such as Boston Chamber Music Society and Boston Modern Orchestra Project. As a composer, she looks forward to the premiere of her Violin Concerto in 2023, commissioned by the Chamber Orchestra of Pittsburgh.


​Alyssa has served as Assistant Conductor for numerous institutions such as the New Hampshire Music Festival and the Colorado College Summer Music Festival. As a passionate educator, Alyssa has given lectures and masterclasses at institutions such as University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon University, UT Austin, and more. Recent performances include a concert for the Library of Congress, the launching of the virtual Boston Festival Chamber Series, and an appearance as a guest artist for the Celebrity Series of Boston’s Neighborhood Arts program.


​Alyssa earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Carnegie Mellon University under the tutelage of Andrés Cárdenes, and completed two Master’s Degrees in violin performance and conducting at the New England Conservatory where she studied with Malcolm Lowe. She was the winner of the Carnegie Mellon School of Music Concerto Competition and the Silbermann Chamber Music Competition, and is the recipient of the Pittsburgh Female College Association Prize, the Carnegie Mellon Women’s Award, the Senior Leadership Award, and the Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award. During her senior year at Carnegie Mellon she helped to run the Heritage Scholarship Campaign, which raised over $180,000 to start a substantial undergraduate merit scholarship for future School of Music students. Alyssa is also an Andrew Carnegie Scholar.


In addition to her life in music, Alyssa is an avid photographer, writer, and social dancer.
